Drago's Tommy Cvitanovich Opens Fire House Burgers
Chargrilling Oysters on a Fire Truck Leads to a New Restaurant Concept?
Tommy Cvitanovich of Drago’s Seafood Restaurant fame (with their signature chargrilled oysters!) is opening a new restaurant: Fire House Burgers.
“Well, it’s a relatively simple story. Even though Drago’s has been around for over 45 years serving up great Louisiana seafood, I love a juicy hamburger. We created Fire House Burgers to serve the juiciest and most flavorful burger that you’ve ever had. What makes our burgers better? Charbroiling each and every one of them over an open FIRE with Drago’s famous butter-garlic sauce. Every bite will be mouth-watering delicious. Let us prove it!” –Tommy Cvitanovich, Owner/Manager
The “Fire House” concept certainly fits, as Drago’s very own fully-functional fire engine – when not parked at the Fat City location – can be seen around town serving up their famous chargrilled oysters. The fire truck is decked out with special grills, beer taps, and flat screen TVs. It even has a Jagermeister dispenser. The truck can been seen at fairs, festivals, and tailgating at Saints football games.
Grilling oysters on the on-board grills, complete with billowing smoke carrying the scent of Drago’s signature butter-garlic sauce, must be a lot of fun. When in action, the fire truck easily becomes the center of attention.
So, Fire House Burgers makes sense for Drago’s. Tommy Cvitanovich is taking the success they have had with their chargrilled oysters, and the fun they have with the the fire engine, and combines the two into a new concept: chargrilled hamburgers with Drago’s butter-garlic sauce. It’s sure to be a winner!
All burgers are made to order and are served with lettuce, tomato, red onion and pickle. Prices start at $7.95. You can choose fresh ground Angus or fresh turkey for the meat. You can also add on any of the following for an extra $1.00: Fire House Chili, Homemade Guacamole, Smoked Bacon, Sauteed Mushrooms, or grilled onions.
There are several house specials on the menu, including the Tex-Mex, the Baja, and a foot-long hotdog. Scroll down to see the menu below.
Fire House Burgers specializes in serving juicy, charbroiled hamburgers, cooked over an open fire, the way a hamburger should be cooked. Each burger is made with your choice of fresh ground Black Angus, fresh turkey or our homemade veggie, topped with Drago’s signature butter garlic sauce. “What an open fire and butter-garlic sauce did to oysters is what we are doing to burgers,” said Tommy Cvitanovich, co-owner and manager. “The combination creates a flavor unlike any other.”
And to add a little lagniappe, guaranteeing the burgers to be even more tasty, the Leidenheimer Baking Company is making a special soft bun just for Fire House Burgers.
Fire House Burgers just opened this past week, and I have not yet had the pleasure of dining there. But it is now on my short list.
The restaurant is open from 4:00 to 9:00 PM, Monday through Saturday. It is closed on Sunday.
